Gregory Lawson: Cabell County Politics

Greg Lawson that retired from federal law enforcement to come home and help with this horrible drug problem is again going to run for office in Cabell County to do all that he can to help his home area with this and other problems that we all need to pay attention to. He is considering running for either the one Magistrate seat that will be open or for County Commissioner. Both of these positions need a person with his broad and considerable experience and expertise. So please do what you can to help us get a person in local politics that has seen a little more than just what happens is this area, and get someone in office that has been invloved in politics and government operations on a larger and more diverse level in this area as well as in many other large cities and countries. So when you go to the polls for this elections vote *Law*son to help make this as better and safer place for us all.

I am originally from the Huntington area, now living in NC. I was actually born in Guthrie Hospital on 6th Ave. I know Huntington, WV.

If Jaime Oliver wants to come to my once "fair" city of Huntington and try to improve its health and lifestyle then welcome him with open arms!

Huntington and West Virginia are in the bottom of healthiest categories in many rankings from Men's Health to Forbes. I myself have fought with weight and health for years but I will not take your advice Ms. Heck.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt. I will not bury my head in the sand like the proverbial ostrich that you are promoting in your blog. Just because Huntington has many hospitals and a mid-major university doesn't mean Huntington is healthy. Obesity and other unhealthy lifestyles are a major problem for Appalachian communities especially Huntington. Have you wondered why there are many health care facilities in and around Huntington?

I am not proud that my old hometown is known as the most unhealthy city in America. Why are you trying to defend it? Let Jaime Oliver come and sell his cook books. Perhaps a recipe or two can convince a Huntington resident to make a healthy, organic and delicious meal. How many times can you eat Stewart's Hotdogs for dinner anyway? I know they are awesome but come on Huntington!

Due to the large number of obviously overweight people in the region (one does not need an M.D. to see this) and the undeniable ineptitude of our gov't, I'm glad to see someone like Oliver step in the gap with courage, stand up to the naysayers and 'attempt' to save us from our gluttonous selves.

I like and agreed with what you said. My father instilled that in me....to take care of those who can't. Very un-popular idea these anti-democraic political days. I agree that we must take care of all the needie, not necessarily a hand out though. To give handouts makes them stay in a state of poverty.

I came to the interent to find a way to help local people who need help. I mean real help in the neighborhoods. I am mainly concerned with children about foods they eat and their families who feed them who know only uneducated choices. I am trying to get a mission going even if I do it on my own about healthy eating.....the kind you can afford on food stamps....and mainly educating the poor who live on food-stamps and how to spend on other than junk food.

I am ONLY 20 years old and I HAVE A WELL mannered, WELL behaved, beautiful 11 month old pit bull terrier that just mauls me with his hugs and kisses! I mean how vicious is he....I can play wrestle with him and jump around with him NOT ONCE NOT EVER has he even so much as SNARLED at ANY ONE!

THE ONLY THING MY DOGS BARKS AT IS SQUIRRELS?! You people are seriously very one-minded at that is SO sad because you obviously haven't put in the time or research behind the breed....

A 5 LB POMERANIAN ONCE MAULED A 6 WEEK OLD BABY!! BAN ALL POMERANIANS..

first off to Stephanie who started this mess your not smart enough to wipe your own ass much less tell people what kind of dogs they should own. Someone ever thought of shooting any dog of mine weather it be my Pit or my Chihuahua there is only 1 thing you can bank on and that would be a funeral cause I'd kill someone over my dogs. What the Huntington police Dept needs to focus on is shooting these sorry ass druggies instead of the dogs put some fear in these people that drugs aren't tolerated if they want to do something about the situation. Like I said someone try something on one of my dogs and I'll damn sure make em pay

Rhonda get a life besides trying to get rid of a breed either by banning them or any other way. people miss use this breed.

They are used by drug dealers because they can be easily trained and are all muscle. what you deal you will get back 10 fold. leave these poor animals alone and go after the owners who mistreat them.

You want to kill dogs huh.... well that shows what kind of person you are.You are wanting to put to death/ban a breed of dog and outlaw them.... PEOPLE TREAT THEM HORRIBLE SO THEY END UP BAD. I have a pit bull and she is loving and friendly to anyone and any animal. She won't even fight back,not to any dog. Yes they do have a high attack rate but the dog is full of muscle.So should every breed of anything be out lawed just b/c dumb ass people treat them wrong?These dogs are being used now but what is next,the wrong doers are the OWNERS who beat,starve,and do harmful things to these dogs. think of what you're doing...she my son lose his doggie b/c other ppl are wrong???

I too have lived at the mission, I was raised in very nice homes, had just about anything I could ask for. I entered into a marriage that turned abusive, I got out to let my children know that is not the way God intended marriage to be. I have been through many things in my life, from foster care/adoption as a child, to fighting breast cancer as an adult. Once I too had a narrow view of people, now I see that sometimes life does not turn out as we once thought it would. I am thankful the mission is there, although yes like any organization, or business there are flaws, it is a blessing. I have had some college, am a decent person, with no substance abuse of any kind. When I applied for jobs people saw the mission address they would not even look at my application. I have found work, I do provide for my child, I have never "bummed". To stay at the mission, or Project Hope, you are trying to better your life for yourself, & your family. It hurts me to read some of the comments made here, " there but for the grace of God go I". I would pray for more tolerance, understanding, & help for the unfortunate, than for bashing. Some staying there have given up hope, others only want a chance. If a woman comes to your business with a education, qualifications, but says I am staying at a shelter, do you turn her away? The mission does help a few, & yes some are beyond help, but to punish all for just a few, is that not wrong? Next time you go to church, listen closely to the message being sent. There are people in the parks, and on the street corners that you associate with the mission, that are not staying there. Go to Project Hope, go to Women & Families side, meet the people there before you condem any of them. Meet the children, who go to churches to sing, who draw pictures for the workers because of the kindness they show them, meet the children who are thankful for a hot meal, a warm bed, a safe home. Who have a birthday cake, & gift, have a present under the Christmas tree, a dinner at Thanksgiving, because of the mission. Don't tell my child that our family is less than anybody elses because we tried to better ourselves.Once there was a homeless man, who traveled the lands to teach others from a book, he had others who walked with him, some said they were liars, worthless. We call him Jesus, & those that walked with him his apostles. May God bless each of you, as well as those at the mission.

Look at the FACTS. Crack kill-Pitt Bulls kill-even the "so called nice ones" loose it and kill a child for no reason at all.....out of the blue. I hope that this doesn't happen to you.
